Nolan North Says Chris Pine Would Have Made A Good Nathan Drake In An Uncharted Movie

Spider-Man actor Tom Holland has been cast as Nathan Drake for the upcoming Uncharted movie that won’t follow any of the previous game’s stories but instead tell a new one focusing on a young Drake.

Had Sony Pictures went with a 1:1 adaptation of the games, actor Nolan North–who plays Drake in the game series–believes Chris Pine would have been a top choice for the role. North had a small role in Star Trek: Into Darkness, and working with Pine on some scenes, he saw that Pine would have made a very fitting Drake.

“I got to watch Chris Pine work, and [I] sat with him at lunch. One time in the makeup trailer I said, ‘If a script called Uncharted ever comes across your agent’s desk you should take a good hard look at it. Because I think you’d be perfect for it,'” North told Fandom.

North said he doesn’t believe it’s smart for the Uncharted movie to be a 1:1 adaptation of any of the games–which it won’t be. But if it were to be, Pine has all the qualities that would make for a good Drake, he said.

“Uncharted is a movie [already]. And you’re the star of that game. You’re the star of that movie. You’re Nathan Drake. Not me [Nolan North]. It’s my voice, it’s my movements, but you’re Nathan Drake,” North said. “You make the decision to jump, run, fall off a cliff. If they were doing a 1:1, Chris Pine is … I think he’s got the everyman quality. Charm. Humor. I really liked working with him. He’s a good solid actor and a good guy. That would be my top choice.”

The Uncharted movie also stars Mark Wahlberg as Sully. After many years and numerous delays, filming was set to begin earlier this year, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. For more on the Uncharted movie, check out GameSpot’s rundown of the movie’s Development Hell.

A New PS4 Is Born Every 30 Seconds Thanks To Modern Manufacturing

A new report from Nikkei’s Asian Review offers a behind-the-scenes look at Sony’s PlayStation manufacturing plant in Japan, revealing how Sony’s consoles are made. One of the most notable takeaways is that the process of making a PlayStation console is now largely automated–that’s right, robots are building game consoles, and they’re building them very fast.

The report says this advanced automation allows the PlayStation manufacturing plant in Kisarazu to assemble one PlayStation 4 console every 30 seconds.

There are humans involved in the process in a limited capacity–two humans put bare motherboards on the assembly line, and two others package the final consoles once they’re made.

Sony uses Mitsubishi Electric’s robots for the actual assembly of the PS4 consoles. A total of 26 robots are assigned to making PlayStation consoles at the plant, and some processes involve two robots working together to complete tasks. One example is that one robot will hold a cable, while another will twist it.

The new, robot-heavy assembly line in Kisarazu was completed in 2018. This will presumably be the same manufacturing line that creates the PlayStation 5 consoles that are due for release later this year.

In addition to the new PS5, Sony will continue to manufacture PS4 and PS4 Pro models, along with the digital-only PS5 edition. Robots will make this process faster and more efficient. No one quoted in the story is worried that the robots will become sentient and overtake the factory despite outnumbering their human production counterparts by a significant margin.

The Last Of Us 2: Here's The Director's Response To Online Harassment

Seven years after the release of the original, The Last of Us Part II is finally out now on PlayStation 4, and it’s reviewing well (here’s GameSpot’s take). Even before release, writer-director Neil Druckmann acknowledged that some fans of the first game would dislike the sequel, and now that the game is out, he’s responded to some of the internet hate. This includes violent threats directed against Laura Bailey, the voice actor of Abby, and the company as a whole has now issued a response.

In a Twitter post on July 5, Naughty Dog said it welcomed criticism but condemned “any form of harassment or threats” directed toward both actors on the project as well as developers.

Speaking on former Nintendo boss Reggie Fils-Aime’s podcast, Druckmann said it’s worthless to fight against people when they share their opinions about a game–whether it be good or bad. However, Druckmann said he can’t understand how people get so worked up and upset about fictional characters.

“I think you have to create some separation to say, we made this game, we believe in this game, we’re proud of this game, now it’s out there and it’s like whatever reaction people have–whether they like it or not–that’s fair,” Druckmann said. “That’s their reaction and you don’t fight that. The other thing with the more hateful stuff, the more vile stuff, that’s a little harder. It’s especially harder when I see it happening to team members or cast members who play a particular character in the game.”

“We have an actor, she’s been getting really awful, vile stuff because of a fictional character she’s playing in the game,” Druckmann added. “I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around that. The thing I try to do is just ignore it as much as I can. When things escalate to being serious, there are certain security protocols that we take and I report it to the proper authorities. Then you just try to focus on the positives and focus on distracting yourself with other stuff. But it’s kind of just the reality.”

Also in the interview, Druckmann said he’s been speaking with Chernobyl writer Craig Mazin about this topic. They are currently working together on the HBO TV version of The Last of Us.

“I’ve had a lot of conversations with him about this stuff. He articulated it pretty well, it’s like people have to get educated. This is kind of the cost. When you’re doing something big, and you might disappoint fans, there is a cost to it now,” Druckmann said. “Which is, you’re going to get a certain level of hate, a certain level of vitriol that you just have to deal with. There is no other way to make it go away.”

Despite some portion of the audience disliking The Last of Us Part II, it didn’t appear to affect the early sales at all, as it outsold the previous game by a significant margin and even beat the sales of Uncharted 4. In fact, the game broke PlayStation’s sales records with 4 million copies sold in its first three days.

Wreckfest Season 1 Ends With New Free Tracks And Tournament Season

Wreckfest has wrapped up Season 1 of DLC with the Banger Racing Car Pack, which includes three new cars, alongside some new free content on all platforms. Publisher THQ Nordic is also teasing a Season 2 of DLC, so the game will likely continue to receive new cars and cosmetics going forward.

Here’s the three cars included in this last wave of Season 1 DLC, as per the press release:

  • Sweeper: This midsize racer is a perfect blend of agility, speed and toughness – a great all-rounder for every type of race.
  • Hearse: This banger racing classic excels at derbies since it can both give and take serious punishment.
  • Stock Car: A versatile little rocket that feels right at home on every oval and Figure 8 track.

The game’s free update is promising a new Tournament Season, called the Banger Bash, as well as two new tracks. Kingston Raceway is a figure-8 circuit track, while Mudford Motorpark is a derby arena with a concave center point. Banger Bash will run through July, and you can earn another new car by competing.

Wreckfest earned a 9/10 in GameSpot’s review. “It’s rare when a racing game manages to modernize and reinvigorate an old formula with spectacular confidence, but Wreckfest does just that,” wrote reviewer James Swinbanks. “Minor issues with menus and its soundtrack aside, it wows with a gorgeous look and wonderful driving feel, along with a damage system that satisfies in the most brutal of fashions.”

Download PUBG Mobile update 0.19.0 today, or miss out on Tencent bonus

A new PUBG Mobile update can be downloaded today, adding a brand new map and a ton of new content.

This latest patch will also lay the groundwork for Season 14 of the Royale Pass, which is scheduled to go live next week.

But there is a very good reason to download the latest version of PUBG Mobile this week on Android and iOS.

Developers Tencent has confirmed that they are offering a new bonus for those gamers who do so before the release of Season 14.

So even if you’re a lapsed PUBG pro, it might still be worth having a look at what you can get.

According to a recent post from the PUBG Mobile support team, downloading update 0.19.0 this week will reward you with the following items:

  • 2,888 BP
  • AG ×100
  • Nightmare Helmet (3d)

PUBG Mobile fans have until July 13 to download the new update and earn this small reward. The only downside to this latest patch is that it will require more space on your phone to run.

This update requires approximately 1.84 GB of storage space on Android devices and 2.13 GB of storage space on iOS devices. It should also be noted that players on different versions of the game will be unable to invite one another into squads.

The reason for the large download size is likely tied to the new Nordic-style map, Livik, which offers much faster, 15-minute games.

Livik is exclusive to PUBG Mobile and is available to try out as soon as you download the latest version of PUBG Mobile onto your device.

Livik measures 2km × 2km, with 52 players and 15 minute match times, however, the new map is still in its beta stage.

This means that the visual quality is likely to improve over the coming weeks and months.

Tencent has also confirmed that a new end of season event is kicking off to make way for the start of Season 14.

Details on the new launch can be found below, courtesy of Tencent:

Season Warm-up Event Gameplay

At the end of Season 13, a season warm-up event will be available for a limited time. After joining the event, players will battle in 4-player teams in Classic Mode (unranked) and can complete missions to earn a small amount of Season 14 ranking points, which will be converted into Season 14 season rating points after the update of Season 14.

Adjustment of Mode Availability Times

After the version update, Payload and RageGear Modes will only be available during the weekend, and Bluehole Mode will no longer be available.

Royale Pass Season 14: Spark the Flame (available July 14)

To celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of Royale Pass, the Roaring Dragon and Dragon Hunter-themed rewards from Season 5 will return.

A RP Prime subscription collaboration with Google is available. Includes both Prime and Prime Plus, which can be subscribed to simultaneously. Supports monthly, quarterly, and yearly subscription. Collect 300 or 900 RP Vouchers every month, along with redemption discounts and Airplane Ranking display perks (only available for Google at this time; available soon for other players).

  • Consolidated page for RP perks. Instantly view consecutive purchase perks and preview other exclusive RP perks.
  • Added an RP Crate Luck Event with amazing rewards.
  • There is a chance to display an RP-related message when returning to the lobby after a match.
  • Improved display of Airplane Ranking and other content in-battle.

Fortnite Lazy Lake Rings Locations: Where To Collect Floating Rings For Week 3 Challenge

Week 3 of Fortnite Season 3 is here, which means there’s a new batch of challenges to complete in the battle royale game. While most of this week’s tasks are fairly straightforward, one that may give you a bit of trouble is to collect floating rings at Lazy Lake. To help you out, we’ve put together this map and guide detailing where to find the floating rings and how to complete the challenge.

Where Are The Floating Rings Locations?

As the challenge states, the floating rings are all located around Lazy Lake, which itself is in grid square F6. You’ll find the rings in various places around the area, but if you’re having trouble tracking them down, we’ve marked the locations of all the ones we’ve found on the map below.

How To Complete The Challenge

Once you spot a floating ring, all you need to do to collect it is either walk or jump into it. Collect four rings and you’ll complete the challenge, earning you a nice bundle of 35,000 XP for your troubles.

While you’re at Lazy Lake, you can also track down fireworks, which have begun appearing around the area just in time for Fourth of July weekend (and fittingly explode into the shape of Captain America’s shield when lit). You can see where those are hidden in our fireworks locations guide.

Another Week 3 challenge that may give you some trouble is to land a choppa at Steamy Stacks, so be sure to check out our guide for tips on how to complete that. If you need help completing any other missions from this season, you can find more maps and guides in our Fortnite Season 3 challenges roundup.

Pokemon Go's July 2020 Field Research Tasks List And Research Breakthrough Reward

July is here, and it’s shaping up to be another busy month for Pokemon Go. On top of all the in-game events Niantic has lined up over the next few weeks, a new batch of Field Research tasks is now live, and if you complete enough of them, you’ll earn a new Research Breakthrough reward: Larvitar.

Each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough in July, your reward will be an encounter with Larvitar, the base form of the powerful Tyranitar. There’s also a chance that the Larvitar you encounter will be Shiny, so there’s a good incentive to complete as much Field Research as you can this month.

As a refresher, Field Research tasks are distributed via Poke Stops. The first one you complete each day will net you a stamp, and collecting seven stamps will lead to a Research Breakthrough. You can see the full list of July’s Field Research tasks, as compiled by The Silph Road, below.

There’s a lot going on in Pokemon Go this month. Pokemon Go Fest 2020 takes place on July 25 and 26, and before then, Niantic is holding a series of weekly challenges that players can complete to unlock additional Pokemon during Go Fest weekend. The Legendary Kyurem is also making its debut in Pokemon Go this month, and Gastly is headlining July’s Community Day.

New Apex Legends Update Fixes Loba Bug, Permanently Adds Mobile Respawn Beacons

With the conclusion of the Apex Legends Lost Treasures limited-time event, Respawn has released a new update for the battle royale game. Loba fans, rejoice! The update finally fixes the annoying problem with her tactical ability on World’s Edge.

For those who don’t main Loba, she’s had an issue with her tactical ability, Burglar’s Best Friend, on World’s Edge since the start of Lost Treasures. Loba’s tactical ability cancels out if you throw it out-of-bounds or off a ledge–which is helpful, as it prevents you from teleporting to your death. However, on World’s Edge, a bug was causing Loba’s tactical ability to detect normal areas as out-of-bounds, cancelling out Burglar’s Best Friend in places where it shouldn’t.

In a Twitter thread, Apex Legends design director Jason McCord explained how the bug came to be and assured players that a fix was already ready–it just needed to go through some testing first. That fix is now live, though Respawn adds that there “are still some known cases [the team is] continuing to work on.”

This update also adds a rather interesting wrinkle to Apex Legends, which will likely see new strategies form in the battle royale game. During Lost Treasures, Apex Legends saw the return of the limited-time mode Armed & Dangerous, though this time with mobile respawn beacons. These items allowed players to bring back fallen teammates from anywhere on the map as opposed to travelling to specific established respawn beacon locations. Though Lost Treasures is over, this new update permanently adds mobile respawn beacons to Trios, Duos, and Ranked playlists.

Don’t fret, the addition of mobile respawn beacons won’t see the existing beacons go away. They’ll still be there, but now your squad will have the option of carrying around an item that can be used to bring back fallen allies from anywhere–even the final few circles, which rarely have respawn beacons inside them.

Other than weapons, this is the second new item added to Apex Legends. The first, the Evo Shield, was also initially introduced in a limited-time mode before being permanently added to the regular playlists.

Bungie is bringing back five old Destiny 2 raids

From July 7 through Sept. 22, the Moments of Triumph event in Destiny 2 will encourage players to participate in five old raids: Leviathan, Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars, Scourge of the Past, and Crown of Sorrows.

Players can run the raids multiple times for additional loot, a new feature of the event. Players can also jump back in to pick up any missing drops, including the the Exotic Sparrow, Exotic Ghost Shell, Seal, title, emblems, raid cosmetics, and Triumphs from the five old raids. Players have always been able to play these old raids, but they haven’t dropped worthwhile rewards in some time. And this new event is a final push for players to experience them before they disappear this fall into the Destiny Content Vault.

Bungie is also offering store rewards tied to the new event, with 15 Triumphs giving players a discount on the 2020 Moments of Triumph T-shirt. Completing all five raids offers a discount on purchasing the Moments of Triumph raid ring.

In order to participate in the event, players must own Destiny 2 as well as the expansions Forsaken, Forsaken Annual Pass, and Shadowkeep.

Evil Geniuses withdraw from OGA Dota PIT Online Season 2

The North and South America division of OGA Dota PIT Season 2 is set to begin next week, on the 16th of July, however, the initial team line-up suffered a slight change after Evil Geniuses decided to drop out of the competition.

The North American organization didn’t make any official comments regarding the decision, but VPEsports confirmed with the tournament organizers, One Game Agency, that EG’s place will be taken by 4 Zoomers. While for some of the lower tier teams, the switch to online only competition format was a blessing, for some of the best teams in the world, and especially for those with players from different regions, like Evil Geniuses, the pandemic hit extremely hard. Ever since the ESL One Los Angeles Major got cancelled back in March, and all tournaments had to put a hold on all their offline events, EG struggled to keep the pace as four of their players are actually not located in the US and have to play on NA servers with high latency. Trying to minimize the damage, EG tried over the past couple of months to bring different stand-ins and never even attempted to play official games with Abed Yusop, located in the Philippines, nor with Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev, who is at home in Russia.

EG’s online experience started with two titles claimed in March and April at ESL One Los Angeles Online and at BTS Pro Series: Americas Season 1, but continued with the proverbial third place finishers over the last month.

In the meantime, the former Digital Chaos, dropped by the organization when the pandemic hit, and rebranded to Quincy Crew took the NA scene by storm. Alongside them, 4 Zoomers, a stack featuring  Nico “Gunnar” Lopez, Jaron “monkeys-forever” Clinton and Samuel “Sammyboy” Anderson, has also started to make waves. Most recently, at the end of June, they pushed Quincy Crew to a decisive game five for the tile of BTS Pro Series: Americas Season 2. They lost the grand finals 2-3 to CCnC and co, but they will definitely look to take revenge starting next week at OGA Dota PIT Online.

The tournament will feature a total of eight squads, four representing North America, and four from the NA, fighting for supremacy in a double elimination bracket.

OGA Dota PIT participating teams:

  • Quincy Crew
  • 4 Zoomers
  • business associates
  • CR4ZY
  • Thunder Predator
  • beastcoast
  • Midas Club
  • Infamous
