Riot Games has launched a new League of Legends platform called LoL Esports in a bid to better centralize and amplify action and content from its 12 regional leagues and tentpole competitions.
LoLEsports.com is the new hub, and there Riot will debut new shows based around different aspects of League of Legends esports games from around the globe, with its most popular ones being the LPL (China), LCK (South Korea), LCS (North America), and LEC (Europe).
The new shows will debut this month and are the “Weekly Rundown,” with highlights from games; “The Penta,” which will show the five best plays from the prior week’s competition; and “Champ Select,” which will discuss standout players.
The new LoL Esports brand is meant to effectively serve as a way to centralize content and serve as a platform where fans can learn and watch action from other places around the world, somewhat comparable to FIFA’s digital presence for soccer. This will also include the two major international competitions, the Mid-Season Invitational and the World Championship.
League of Legends launched in 2010, and Riot says this effort was undertaken to find a way to better tell the stories around LoL esports as it heads into the next decade.
