Cats And Mario Kart Live Don’t Mix Well

Mario Kart Live has been out for a couple of days now, and while players have been having fun building their own race tracks, their family pets haven’t got the memo. Surprising almost no one, it turns out that Mario Kart Live and cats don’t mix very well.

Mario Kart Live is an augmented reality game that combines a real RC car with Mario Kart gameplay via the Switch. A small camera attached to the top of Mario’s RC car provides you a real-time view of the race track that you have built using some special gates and barriers. You use your Switch as the controller for both the car and your traditional virtual Mario.

Cats, being what they are, are keener to attack your RC car (or run from it) than to leave it alone. One Twitter user even shared their experience with the world, showing us just what it looks like when you run across these unique obstacles— and it’s worse than the blue turtle shell.

While you’re stuck trying to get around your cats, your virtual opponents aren’t going to have the same problem. If you’re really good at Mario Kart, this could be seen as an added challenge—proving once and for all that you’re the greatest racer there is. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a new way to harass your cat, Mario Kart Live could be the perfect way to do it.

No matter what, though, there are going to be real-world challenges that come with the way that Mario Kart Live works. This could come in the form of space limitations, lost gates, or your furry best friend.

Really, that’s part of the charm of the game. Life is going to throw things at you that you are going to need to overcome, but life also gives you opportunities to learn how to react to unexpected events. The creative possibilities of Mario Kart Live far outweigh any of the negative aspects of the game. We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with for your tracks (and the attendant hiccups).
