Cyberpunk 2077 delayed for the third time and it’s starting to get silly

CD Projekt Red admits that it needs to push back Cyberpunk 2077 once more, so it can release on all platforms at the same time.

Back in January, Cyberpunk 2077 was delayed from its April release to September. At the time, CD Projekt Red assured that it would not happen again.

The game was then delayed again until November but with it going gold earlier this month, it looked as if it was finally ready to come out.

However, in a tweet earlier today, CD Projekt Red admitted that it must delay the game one more time.

Fortunately, it’s not super long. In fact, it’s only 21 days, with the new release date landing on December 10.

As for why, it’s so that the studio can release every version of Cyberpunk 2077 at the same time.

‘The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current gen, next gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to test nine versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4/Pro, compatibility on PlayStation 5, PC, Stadia) while working from home,’ reads the announcement.

It also explains that, just because the game officially went gold, that never meant that development had stopped and the developers have still been working on the Day 0 patch, which will add a number of improvements.

Regardless of the reason, people are less than thrilled by the delay, with some eager fans having booked time off work so they could play it in November.

This is also still in the wake of reports of enforced crunch at the studio, which has earned CD Projekt Red plenty of scorn and criticism, especially as this was also something it initially promised wouldn’t happen.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on December 10 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. Dedicated Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 versions are expected to come out next year.
