Microsoft has offered the first new tease about Halo Infinite in a long while, with a tweet that’s already got 2.6 million views.
Technically, Halo Infinite was announced over a year ago now and yet we’ve never really seen the game in action beyond that initial tease.
That should all change next month though, when Microsoft finally unveil more about the Xbox Series X and its games – and this new audio clip seems to be building up to that.
It reveals more than you’d first imagine too, as after a bit of ranting from someone with a very sore throat the speaker reveals himself to be one of The Banished – the bad guys from Halo Wars 2.
As good as real-time strategy game Halo Wars 2 was it was nowhere near as big a hit as a regular Halo game, so it’s a surprise to find anything from its story being referenced in Halo Infinite.
The Banished don’t need much explaining though as they’re basically just ordinary Covenant aliens that broke away from the Prophets and decided to do their human-hating their own way.
In Halo Wars 2 The Banished were stuck on the Forerunner Ark installation, which is used to make Halo ringworlds. The message references occupying ‘the ring’, implying that they’ve now moved on to one of the traditional Halo worlds.
That’s certainly where the E3 2019 teaser seemed to be set, although it’s probably best not to take anything from that as gospel.
It’s also unlikely The Banished are the only enemies in the game – if they even are enemies – as a spot of Covenant-on-Banished action seems more than possible.
What’s also interesting about the tweet though is just how many people have viewed it.
It’s at over 2.5 million at time of writing and while many have pointed to the limited reaction Xbox Series X seems to be getting on social media, compared to the record-breaking PlayStation 5, this is a clear sign that Halo is still a massive draw, even if people aren’t yet sold on Microsoft’s next gen hardware.
