The wait between The Last Of Us and The Last Of Us Part 2 was a long one, but one that wound up being worth the wait. The wait for Part 3 could be an even longer one. While Naughty Dog has confirmed an outline for the game's story has been written, there's no word yet on when the game might arrive, if at all. Understandable since it hasn't even been two years since Part 2 launched.
Luckily, TLOU fans do have some other stuff to look forward to. HBO's TV adaptation, which will hopefully be here before the end of 2022, and a standalone multiplayer game. Nothing much has been mentioned about Part 2's multiplayer spinoff but it's believed to be the Factions mode that was supposed to be a part of the actual game. There might be even more than that to come on TLOU front too.
It was reported by Bloomberg last year that Naughty Dog is working on a PS5 remake of the first TLOU game. According to insider Tom Henderson, that remake should be here before the end of 2022. Henderson revealed he has heard from multiple people that “TLOU remake is nearly finished and could release during the latter half of 2022.” That apparently matches information provided by VGC's sources.
Henderson goes on to add that Part 2 will be getting some love too. Not just the multiplayer, but also a director's cut. While Henderson states the remake is slated for the second half of 2022, he doesn't know when the multiplayer game and the director's cut will be here. He does speculate that all three projects launching together makes a lot of sense as Naughty Dog and PlayStation will want to drum up as much interest for the HBO show as possible.
If all of the above is true, and indeed coming soon, then there really is a lot to be excited about for TLOU fans. The second half of 2022 is currently looking pretty quiet for PlayStation too, so it would make sense that the calendar could soon be filled with TLOU-related projects. Not to mention Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann revealing he and the team have a lot of exciting stuff they can't wait to reveal. It stands to reason that at least some of that exciting stuff is linked to TLOU.
