The developer behind Monster Hunter Rise, Capcom, just released a sneak peak at the upcoming expansion pack, Sunbreak. The showcase features the brand new Citadel region and the monkey monster known as Garangolm. Sunbreak is currently scheduled to come out on June 30, 2022.
Players will be able to leave Kamura Village for the coastal city of Elgado Outpost in Sunbreak. Having arrived at this gateway to the Citadel region, players will get to explore dense forests, frozen mountains, and foggy swamps in addition to the ruins of a massive castle.
The expansion features “improved gameplay and nimble-feeling additions to combat mechanics, unique new monsters and hunting locales, and a new difficulty level in the form of Master Rank quests,” according to Capcom. “As the hunter who saved Kamura from calamity, you must now journey to the far off reaches of Elgado, an outpost near a Kingdom beset by a sinister new nemesis.”
The showcase takes players on a tour of the ruined castle and its surrounding landscapes, giving a glimpse of its unique endemic life and monsters. Garangolm in particular. This monkey monster makes use of earth and fire in the form of elemental attacks. Garangolm can be seen in the showcase covering its arms in moss and magma.
Garangolm is described by the developer as a monster “characterized by its massive and rigid body. Their sap-like fluids can promote plant growth, forging a symbiotic relationship with flora that grows in their bodies. They can also use that sap to harden plants or the surrounding soil, outfitting their bodies and enhancing their attacks.”
In addition to Garangolm, Sunbreak will feature a host of other new monsters including “the elder dragon Malzeno” and “the icy wolf-like Lunagaron.” These three monsters “comprise the Three Lords, an infamous trio of monsters that threaten the lands of the Kingdom.”
The new content in Sunbreak requires a copy of the base game to access. Players who purchase the expansion pack before August 17, 2022 are able to claim the Loyal Dog and Striped Cat costumes for their Palamutes and Palicos, respectively.
