One Piece Odyssey is coming slightly later than expected. Originally scheduled for 2022, the new One Piece RPG is now coming early next year.
The most recent release date trailer has confirmed One Piece Odyssey arrives on January 13, 2023. That's the bad news, but the good news is that the trailer reveals far more of One Piece Odyssey's plot than any of the three previous trailers.
From those trailers and the official website, we already knew that the Straw Hat pirate gang would wind up stranded on a mysterious island where they'd have to fight terrifying monsters and uncover a terrible secret. Now we know that the island is called Waford and that secret is actually a mysterious young woman who steals the Straw Hat Gang's powers and locks them away in green cubes. Luffy and the gang then have to travel all across the island to retrieve their powers and escape the island.
Why would a mysterious girl lock away the powers of people she'd only just met? It actually makes sense–Luffy and the gang are pirates, after all, and pirates typically have a bad rep. If you wanted to keep yourself safe, you'd lock away the powers of invading pirates too. And maybe lock away their swords and guns as well.
Unlike previous One Piece games, Odyssey is going to be a turn-based RPG. One suspects that you'll level up whenever you retrieve those green cubes, which will unlock part of Luffy's power.
Pre-orders for One Piece Odyssey are available now with a few bonuses for eager pirates. Pre-order the Standard Edition and you'll get ten Energy Apples, three Golden Jellies, and ten Excite Apples. You'll also get a Travelling Outfit set that gives everyone in the Straw Hat Gang a new costume.
If you pre-order the Deluxe Edition, you'll get all of the above plus two Petite Jewelries (which are described as in-game accessories) and the Sniper King outfit for Usopp. You'll also get first-crack and the story-based DLC expansion along with 100,000 Berry.
There's also a Collector's Edition which includes all that and a collector's box, a Steelcase, a Luffy and Lim figurine, and three postcards.
One Piece Odyssey arrives on January 13 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
