PS5 August event will reveal ‘jaw-dropping God of War game and return of iconic franchise’

PS5 fans look like they’ll have a big summer ahead of them, with Sony rumoured to be holding their next PlayStation 5 event in early August. Recently rumours have pointed to a new State of Play broadcast on the PS5 taking place on Thursday August 6. This rumour comes courtesy of Twitter user Roberto Serrano, who previously correctly leaked the re-arranged date for the initial PS5 reveal event.

Serrano isn’t the only one who has raised the possibility of an upcoming PS5 event, with in-the-know journalist Jeff Grubb also expecting a PS5 State of Play in August.

One of the biggest rumours surrounding the next PS5 event is that Sony could finally unveil the Silent Hill reboot that is believed to be in the works at Japan Studio.

While Sony may also use the upcoming State of Play to at last reveal the PS5 price, release date and when pre-orders will open.

And ahead of this rumoured stream details on other big announcements taking place during the next PlayStation 5 event may have emerged.

As reported on in a post by CCN, it has been claimed Sony will unveil the next God of War game during their August event.

The sequel to the critically acclaimed 2018 title is rumoured to feature “jaw-dropping graphics” that border on the photorealistic.

And it’s been claimed the new God of War game could be launching on the PS5 as soon as late 2021.

That’s according to YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead who outlined the exciting PS5 claims in a video online.

The YouTuber said: “This is a bombshell, I believe, is a new God of War. The sequel will be shown off supposedly in under a month. This is a well-guarded secret. It’s supposedly going to have jaw-dropping graphics that will approach photo-realism. They want to showcase this as ‘see PlayStation brings you next-gen graphics.’ It’s coming fall 2021.”

Moore’s Law Is Dead also claimed that Sony are about to revive a “mainstay” franchise which will be a PS5 launch exclusive.

They said this is “a revival of a mainstay of PlayStation, one that used to be a bigger tentpole franchise, and Mark Cerny is working on it.”

It remains to be seen what this title could be, with plenty of possibilities.

For our part we’d love to see a Ridge Racer revival – while it’s under the Bandai Namco banner the arcade racer was synonymous with PlayStation back in the 90s.

There are plenty of other possibilities, such as a brand new Ape Escape game which should surely go down a treat with fans.

Given Cerny’s involvement in Knack, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him tackle another platformer such as Ape Escape.

Elsewhere, the August State of Play may announce one of the first PS5 games to allegedly get leaked.

Last year rumours emerged that Sony were working on a PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 game in conjunction with Capcom.

The rumoured new title would be PlayStation’s answer to Smash Bros, and would see a huge amount of iconic characters face off.

Nathan Drake, Kratos, Aloy, Lara Croft, Ellie and Parappa The Rapper are all allegedly in the roster.

While other famous faces such as Cloud Strife, Solid Snake, Jill Valentine as well as Ryu and Chun-Li are also rumoured to be feature in the game’s fighter list.
