The classic Star Wars Republic Commando is making its way to PS4 and Nintendo Switch on April 6, according to a new statement from Aspyr. The first-person tactical shooter will feature modernized controls and be available for just $14.99.
“Since its original launch in 2005, Republic Commando continues to be a fan-favorite Star Wars game. We’re honored to be able to work with Lucasfilm Games to bring back this beloved moment in franchise history,” said Ted Staloch, Aspyr Co-founder.
First published in 2005, Star Wars Republic Commando sees you step into the shoes of RC-1338, an elite clone trooper in the Star Wars Legends expanded universe. The story follows RC-1338 and their unit as they complete increasingly difficult missions throughout the Clone Wars. You can check out the old-school action in the trailer below:
Republic Commando on Switch and PS4 will be “brought back as a single-player experience” and feature the following content:
- Welcome to the Clone Wars: Chaos has erupted throughout the galaxy. As the leader of an elite squad of Republic Commandos, your mission is to infiltrate, dominate, and ultimately annihilate the enemy.
- Battle Relentless Enemies: Battle a variety of highly intelligent and deadly enemies—from brutal Trandoshan mercenaries to the flying insectoid warriors of Geonosis.
- The Squad is Your Weapon: Your squad will follow your orders, performing complex commands and strategic maneuvers. You are their leader. They are your weapon.
This isn’t the first classic game Aspyr is bringing back to life, as earlier this month the team announced the revival of Stubbs The Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse. That cult-classic will be arriving on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on March 16.
Aspyr also worked on the mobile port of Civilization 6, so it’s safe to say the Switch and PS4 ports of Republic Commando are in good hands.
Star Wars Republic Commando will be available for Switch and PS4 on April 6. Pre-orders for the game are now available on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
