Super Mario Bros. Movie Delayed Into 2023

Representative Director at Nintendo Shigeru Miyamoto just announced on Twitter that despite being highly anticipated by fans of the franchise, the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie has in fact been delayed into 2023. The film has not yet been officially named and absolutely no teasers or trailers have been released, but the movie was originally scheduled to come out on December 21, 2022.

“This is Miyamoto,” the executive said. “After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring, 2023. April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America.” Miyamoto expressed his “deepest apologies,” but promised that “it will be well worth the wait.”

This comes in the wake of news that a group known as FemboyFilms managed to restore the legendary animated movie called Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! The anime was originally screened in Japan before being released on VHS and Betamax in 1986. Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! was directed by Masami Hata and produced by Masakatsu Suzuki along with Tsunemasa Hatano. The film follows Mario and Luigi as they embark on a quest to save Princess Toadstool from King Koopa. The anime is known for being one of the first movies based on a video game.

“Bing, bing, wahoo! Get ready for an adventure of super proportions,” FemboyFilms announced. “This is our 4K Restoration of the 1986 animated film Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! which for us has been months in the making, but for other fans who had known about it much earlier, years in the making. We are honored to be the ones to restore this film to get it looking the best it ever has and likely the best it ever will.” Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach! has long been thought more or less lost, but fans of the franchise are now able to enjoy the movie on YouTube.
