Team Ninja's next project, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is set to launch early next year. The game was a surprise announcement at the Xbox and Bethesda showcase, and while we didn't get much more than a cinematic trailer, we sort of know what to expect from Team Ninja. However, we do know for sure that the game will be set in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty, where the Three Kingdoms have been overrun by demons.
Now, thanks to a new tweet by the game's official handle, we've received a bit more information about Wo Long. Firstly, there will be a character creator functionality that will let you choose how your avatar will look. It will include "challenging gameplay" which, while vague, might mean that the devs will build on the punishing combat system from Nioh. A morale system as well as Chinese weapons and martial arts will feature heavily, along with historical characters from the Three Kingdoms.
Since this is evidently a dark fantasy take on the era, you'll come across beings and monsters from Chinese mythology, as well as extensive use of sorcery. While not elaborated upon, there will also be a multiplayer system of some sort. Lastly, you'll be able to check all these features out without having to buy the game, as it will be getting a gameplay demo at some point.
An earlier revealed description of the game said that players will have to "fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within". While it's not been confirmed, we can expect more of Team Ninja's take on Soulslike combat.
The game is "a joint creation by Team NINJA producers Fumihiko Yasuda (Nioh) and Masaaki Yamagiwa (Bloodborne), Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty follows the dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty".
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will launch early next year for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and come day-one to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
