The Last Of Us multiplayer spin-off will be as big as the single-player games

Naughty Dog has shown off the first concept art for their new multiplayer game and revealed the original’s voice actors are in the TV show.

The Last Of Us multiplayer game has been an open secret for so long (much like the remake of the first game) that we’ve honestly forgotten whether developer Naughty Dog has publicly acknowledged before or not.

They have now though, and also revealed the first bit of concept art, although they said very little about it other than it will be as big, if not ‘bigger’, than the single-player games and will have a proper story with all-new characters set in what looks like San Francisco.

What that means in practice is still a mystery but Sony compared it to the Factions mode from the original game, which implies it’s still at least somewhat similar.

No name was given for the multiplayer game and while there was also no release date it won’t be out this year, as Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann warned you won’t see much more on the game until next year.

The announcement capped off the two hour long Summer Game Fest livestream, although it was obvious that The Last Of Us Part 1 remake was supposed to be the main reveal – until Sony themselves managed to leak it several hours before the show started.

There was plenty of other The Last Of Us stuff to talk about though, including the upcoming HBO show. Alongside a new photo it was revealed that original voice actors Troy Baker and Ashely Johnson will start in the game in unknown roles, while Druckmann himself is directing one of the episodes.

Apart from the two The Last Of Us spin-offs Druckmann also admitted that he was working on a new game as director, although he gave no clue as to what it is.

Previously he suggested his next game would be either a new IP or The Last Of Us Part 3, although that was before the Uncharted movie and Sony’s renewed interest in making a new game.
