The winter holiday season is a crucial time for most consumer-facing businesses and videogame studios are no different, looking to bolster their revenue over the final two months of the year. For the third time in its history, HTC’s virtual reality (VR) platform Viveport is now offering developers 100% revenue from sales of their titles until the year of the year.
Any developer on Viveport can participate in the scheme simply by opting their content into the following programs: Viveport Store: One Time Purchase, Viveport Infinity, Viveport Arcade or the Viveport In-App Purchase service.
Viveport initially ran the promotion for its first anniversary, following it up again in 2018. Just like other platforms such as Oculus Store and Steam, normally Viveport runs a 70/30 revenue split. The offer will likely tempt more developers to the platform which has grown to offer a fully agnostic service for PC VR headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality.
Unlike its rivals, Viveport‘s biggest draw is its Infinity subscription service which offers monthly and yearly deals as well as a free 14-day trial. New and popular VR titles are continually added like The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, Moss, Stride, The Room VR: A Dark Matter and Yupitergrad, making it a sort of Netflix of VR.
Viveport has also gained increased prominence over the last few months thanks to a variety of film festivals using it as their main distribution platform. Venice VR Expanded and LFF Expanded held their portal there, whilst the V&A Museum has Curious Alice available. At the moment Raindance Immersive is running until the 15th November with free VR content, so there’s plenty to tempt you to have a look.
