Call Of Duty's Warzone cycle begins again today in the form of Warzone 2.0. First looks at Warzone 2.0's map have started to appear and players have already discovered it includes an Easter egg from the original Modern Warfare 2.
Twitter account Modern Warzone posted a clip of a player dropping onto the new map, Al Mazrah. A specific area of the map that pays homage to the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. Quarry from the previous title's multiplayer has been placed right in the middle of Warzone 2.0.
Although it was much bigger than the likes of Rust, Quarry's size still doesn't compare to the massive map Warzone 2.0 players will have the chance to properly explore for the first time today. That's why it can be included as a part of Al Mazrah and only occupy a fraction of the new game. If you're unfamiliar with Quarry, the map had a lot of dips and windows in huts higher up, offering up a number of lofty vantage points for players savvy enough to use them.
Warzone 2.0's arrival comes a few weeks after Modern Warfare 2 launched, a title that may have reminded players the original game to hold that name might have had the best multiplayer mode in Call of Duty history. While it isn't the remaster of that mode many would love to see, including Quarry in Warzone 2.0 is at least an acknowledgment that Activision hasn't completely forgotten about the 2009 classic.
Many of you will be reading this as you actively countdown to the official arrival of Warzone 2.0 later today. If you haven't preloaded it already, now might be the best time to do so. Not only because it will be a hefty download size in most cases, but because much like the first Warzone, figuring out where to find it is easier said than done. Behind the scenes, Call of Duty studio Activision Blizzard remains under investigation for allegedly harboring a toxic work environment as its potential future parent company Microsoft has pledged to publish annual sexual harassment reports.
