Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel Introduces 3v3 And 5v5 Team Battles

Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has introduced team duels, allowing teams of either three or five to face off. To help accommodate these larger duels, a new booster pack is introducing a new archetype, and further support for all players.

While other games have multiplayer formats, such as Magic: The Gathering’s Commander and Two-Headed Giant, where everyone is lumped onto the same table and all play together, Team Battles in Master Duel will work slightly differently.

Instead of everyone playing the same game, teams will face off against each other one-on-one, with the team winning the most individual games at the end taking the entire match.

Effectively, these are still one-on-one duels. However, your victory depends on how good the rest of your team is – you could lose your duel, but still come out on top if your teammates know what they’re doing, or vice-versa. The mode also includes a full spectator mode that lets you replay the match’s other duels, and a rudimentary communication system to organise between yourselves.

To add a higher level of teamwork to it, there are two different team compositions available. Either your team can all play Standard-legality decks, or you can restrict each player to a different kind of Special Summoning, such as Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, or Link. This means it is more important to coordinate with your team to ensure those with the best decks for the occasion fill the right role.

Coming alongside Team Battles is the new Battle Trajectory Selection pack, which has a very strong Pendulum-summoning focus. It introduces the Vaylantz archetype, which plays with moving cards around the board, as well as support for Pendulum’s two most popular archetypes, Performapal and Odd-Eyes. This pack is available through the in-game shop, under the Normal Pack menu, for 100 gems.

Also in the store are new cosmetics to celebrate the launch of Team Battles, with a Mamonaka the Vaylantz United protector and a Visas Starfrost icon available in the store.

Team Battles are available in Master Duel now, and can be founder under the Free Duel subheading in the Duel menu.
