Nintendo Direct January 2020 Update
Nintendo is believed to be putting the final touches on a possible Nintendo Direct for January 2020.
Well known Nintendo insider, Emily Rogers, has also teased that Nintendo has two unannounced Wii-U ports in the works.
Equally, she added that the two games “are not difficult to guess because there aren’t many Wii U games left to port.”
So it's plausible that Pikmin 4 is on the backburner, with a possible remaster of the Wii-U Pikmin 3 game coming first.
Emily Roger's has an enviable track record with regards to Nintendo leaks, so whilst we would always urge caution and pinches of salt, we'd always be quietly excited by this news.
Fingers crossed we could be very close to a new Pikmin game coming to Nintendo Switch in the near future.
Original Story – Pikmin is a series of puzzle strategy video games created by Shigeru Miyamoto and published by Nintendo in 2001.
The player takes control of Captain Olimar, and the game involves creating a horde of adorable, plant-like creatures called Pikmin.
The Pikmin collect items by destroying obstacles, avoiding hazards and fighting fauna.
Currently there are two games in the series, Pikmin and Pikmin 2, which were released for GameCube, and Pikmin 3 for Wii U.
In 2017 Hey! Pikmin was released on the Nintendo 3DS on July 28, 2017.
The Pikmin series is incredibly popular, with Pikmin 3 being released to wide acclaim in 2013.
Pikmin 4 is the next instalment in the series, which has been confirmed to be in development.
Back in 2015 Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed to Eurogamer Pikmin 4 was “very close to completion”.
He said: “It’s actually very close to completion. Pikmin teams are always working on the next one.”
After this, Nintendo confirmed to the website Pikmin 4 “is in development but that is all we can confirm at present”.
Although it hasn’t been specifically confirmed, it is believed Pikmin 4 will be released for Nintendo Switch.
Despite being told the game was close to being finished, fans are still waiting for the latest Pikmin game.
Apart from Pikmin 4 still being in development, we don’t actually know much more about the game.
Miyamoto told Game Rant in 2016 Nintendo are still working on the adorable game.
He said: “We’re working on Pikmin 4. So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and tit has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”
So, by the sounds of that, it would seem like Pikmin 4 has been delayed, but is still in the works.
Even though fans were hoping they didn’t have long left to wait in 2015, Pikmin 4 still isn’t out.
We still aren’t any closer to knowing an official release date, but the last mention of the game was to Polygon in 2017 during E3.
Miyamoto told the website Pikmin 4 is “still in development”, but that is all we can confirm at present”.
Although a time scale remains unknown, best case scenario we are looking at a 2019/2020 release date.
