4,000+ Steam Games Get Discounts In Latest PC Games Sale–Plus A Free Game

PC game keys retailer Fanatical has offered some pretty fantastic sales as of late, and another blowout sale is back with over 4,000 deals on PC games, bundles, and DLC. Fanatical offers licensed Steam keys, and the vast majority of games featured in the latest sale must be redeemed on Steam. The timing for Fanatical’s Red Hot Sale is certainly interesting, as it kicked off just days before Steam Summer Sale 2020 (which is expected to launch at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET today), but Fanatical’s prices tend to be just as good (and usually better) than Steam’s, so it’s still worth checking out the numerous discounts in this latest deals bonanza. Spend over $10 in the sale, and you’ll also get a free Steam game with your purchase. Right now, the free game is Jydge, a top-down shooter roguelike.

The sale notably includes Persona 4 Golden, which launched on Steam last week. The Steam release means the beloved JRPG is now available to a much wider audience (it was previously available only on PlayStation Vita), and you can currently grab it for a few bucks off at Fanatical. The base game is available for $17, while the Digital Deluxe edition is down to $21.24. Check out our impressions of the Persona 4 Golden PC port for more information on how the game holds up in 2020.

If you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing party game to play online with friends, Jackbox Party Pack 6 is on sale for $21 right now. While Jackbox was designed to be played locally, you can play with friends remotely by using Steam’s Remote Play Together feature–only one person needs to own a copy of the game. All of the other Jackbox Party Pack bundles are on sale as well, each of which features different mini-games to play.

Other notable games on sale including Sleeping Dogs’ Definitive Edition for just $3, XCOM: Chimera Squad for $9.19, and Frostpunk for $12.

Fanatical is also offering a “Golden Mystery Bundle,” which lets you get up to 10 mystery keys for $7. According to Fanatical, the collection of possible games includes both “AAA and indie hits” from publishers like Square Enix, Codemasters, and more. In the name of science, I purchased a bundle for myself–here’s what I got:

  • RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe
  • Island Tribe
  • Viking Saga: Epic Adventure
  • Original Journey
  • Farm Mania: Hot Vacation
  • Redout – Enhanced Edition

Steam Summer Sale theme and trading cards

While last year’s Steam Summer Sale had a unique Grand Prix theme, Steam Summer Sale 2020 looks to have a more generic summer road trip theme. There’s no real mini-game this year, but you can earn Summer Sale trading cards. You’ll get one trading card for every $10 USD that you spend; plus, you’ll earn one card a day during the sale by completing your Discovery Queue. You can then craft those cards to gain levels for the Summer Road Trip Badge.

A “Road Trip Special” is also available during the Steam Summer Sale. You can save an additional $5 on any purchase of $30 or more. The discount is applied at checkout. There’s also a free sticker to claim each day the sale is live.

Steam Summer Sale introduces Points Shop

Steam has launched the Points Shop alongside the Summer Sale, which will now be open year-round and lets you earn points as you shop. You’ll earn 100 points for every dollar you spend, whether that’s on a game, DLC, application, soundtrack, or in-game items. Those points can then be redeemed for Profile or Chat items, including animated avatars, frames, backgrounds, and badges.

You can also redeem your points to get a background or emoticon for games you already own, including those that were previously associated with trading cards. Another new feature: Community Awards, which let you reward reviews or other user-generated content that you find particularly insightful, heartwarming, or notable in some other way. There are also badges you can earn by rewarding others’ content.

Unlike previous Steam sales where items you earned expired after a certain amount of time, any Point Shop items will be yours to keep and have unlimited uses, with the exception of a special Summer Golden Profile that you can purchase–it’ll display for up to 30 days.

As per usual in Steam sales, the platform likes to include an additional sales feature to encourage gamers to buy more titles through various rewards. This time its the Points Shop, so when you buy a videogame, DLC, hardware, application, soundtrack, or an in-game item you’ll earn yourself points – 124 points for every £1.00 you spend to be exact. These can then be redeemed for animated avatars, frames, backgrounds, badges and chat items. The big difference with the Points Store is that it’s permanent.

So go take a look and see what catches your eye. For all the latest VR software and hardware deals, keep reading VRFocus.

Steam Summer Sale 2020 Now Live Discounting Half-Life: Alyx And More

The Steam Summer Sale for 2020 is now live until July 9th at 10PM PT with discounts across the entire storefront on thousands of games including some of the very best VR titles like Half-Life: Alyx and The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

Every year Valve has an enormous Steam Summer Sale with deep discounts on popular games and often even new releases. You can browse the sales and categories on the main landing page. If you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on a pricey VR game until it gets a bit of a discount, or want to try and grab a bunch of games you may have missed for lower prices, now is the time to act. The Steam Summer Sale will last until 10PM PT on July 9th.

Valve also has some mini-game or meta-level feature alongside each Steam Summer Sale usually as well. This time, it’s Steam Points. Various things on Steam can earn you points, such as buying games or contributing to communities. The conversion rate is 100 points for every $1.00 you spend. You can then spend points on animated avatars, frames, profile backgrounds, badges, and chat emotes, or even for items from games you already, that you get to keep forever.

What’s unique about this feature though is that it’s not just tied to the Steam Summer sale — the Points Shop is now a permanent feature on Steam. However, unlike trading cards and some in-game items, you cannot sell or trade anything purchased in the Points Shop.

Here are some of the stand out best quality and value deals we’ve identified in the Steam Summer Sale, but it’s worth browsing the entire VR category listing for more. You can see every discounted VR game on Steam right here (that’s over 1,000 results in total!) and the official VR landing page is right here.

The Steam Summer Sale starts with deals on Borderlands 3, Assassin's Creed and more

Is it…is it summer already? I locked the door to my apartment in March when it was cold and blustery outside and…well, it’s June in San Francisco, so it’s probably cold and blustery outside. But the point is that I’m reduced to marking time by the various Steam sales, and that means today it’s summer.

Yes, the Steam Summer Sale kicks off Thursday, and runs through July 9 at 10AM Pacific. Like the last few sales, there’s a points-driven meta layer that rewards you for purchasing games and such. “Rewards” is a bit strong of a term maybe, given it’s all profile backgrounds and chat effects and the like, but hey, it’s a “souvenir” of the sale, as Valve puts it.

And hey, you’re buying the games anyway, right? Thousands of games are on sale, and it always takes a bit to sort through everything. There are some early standouts though, with Borderlands 3 at 50% off (after six months), Assassin’s Creed Odyssey providing over a hundred hours of game for $20, Planet Coaster and Cities Skylines both 75% off, the fantastic Shadow Tactics for just $6, and Pathologic 2 for under $15. Valve’s Index VR headset also appears to be back in stock, though I’m unsure whether that’s related to the sale. Either way, get it fast before it’s gone.

Competition between Epic and Valve continues to pay off for the players. With the last few Epic Games Store sales, Epic sweetened the pot by giving out $10 coupons that can be applied to most any game in the store. Valve’s put its own spin on that, taking $5 off when you spend $30. Not quite the same, but hey, it’s free money.

As I said, the sale runs through July 9, so you’ve got plenty of time to peruse what’s on offer. All those EA games just came back to Steam as well, so might I recommend picking up Titanfall 2?

Over 4,000 Steam Deals Available In PC Games Sale, Plus A Free Game

Right now, the free game is Override: Mech City Brawl, a 3D mech-based brawler.

  • Shoppe Keep
  • Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter
  • Northern Tale
  • Roads of Rome 3
